Description
A superb Venetian wine glass dating to c1580.
It has a pointed funnel bowl with two applied “wings” in blue glass over a double merese and a spirally moulded hollow knopped stem on a wide conical foot .standing 7 3/8 inches tall with a 3 7/8th bowl and a 3 3/8th foot.
This fine glass is in excellent condition with the merest hint of bloom on some of the bowl. which is hardy surprising after 430 years or so.
Glasses of this form are well documented and similar bowls with blue wings attached with identical stem forms can be seen in The Golden Age of Venetian Glass by Hugh Tait for the British museum .ISBN 0 7141 1351 4 published 1979.
