Additional Information : This has been a problematic “whodunnit” and I am sorry to report that we still do not know. The citron colour glass was used by many producers. Webb. Stevens and Williams and Richardsons as well as Pantin and other cameo producers in France and Austria. The use of morning glory as a decorative theme is widespread. The covers were silver. silver plate or polished pewter and there are no marks on the metal work.
There is one clue. the lip and the handle. The flat lip and handle are of a type that appears on many cameo claret jugs produced by the St Denis and Pantin glassworks in Paris. Legras. We favour this being French in origin but can say no more than that. Glass makers from Alsace and Lorraine also used Paris metal workers and pewterers.
