Description
A signed Daum Nancy amethyst vase c1910.
It is beautifully enamelled with white flag irises with gilt foliage. There are two small applied handles and a milled neck ring around the aperture. The upper section is rich amethyst and the base is clear glass. It stands 4 1/4 inches tall and 7 3/4 inches diameter. The foot shows some wear and it has been used for flowers evidenced by the clouding to the base. This does not detract from the piece as it is not observed unless viewed from the underside. It is marked Daum Nancy with the cross of Lorraine integrated into the letter N. We have contacted an art glass specialist who advise us that this was made between 1905 and 1910. Irises were a widely used theme by Daum at the time.
