The entwined flowering prunus was a motif created by Frederick Carder of Stevens and Williams. The two carvers working with Carders designs at the time were John Orchard and Joshua Hodgetts. See Hajdamach plate 57 for the same motifs. This is the most fantastic piece of workmanship and would be a joy to use.

This is not mineral rock crystal. but thick lead glass that has been cut. engraved and polished to mimic the far more costly mineral. The cutting is deep giving a high relief to the design. Thomas Webb hired Bohemian and German engravers to execute such elaborate and rich designs. The work of William Fritsche is absolutely stunning. We do not know the manufacturer in this case. the shape is found in both Webb. Powell and Stuart pattern books and we are unable to locate the same design. We favour Stuart. However we believe that this stands up on it’s own artistic merit and would be delighted to hear from anyone who can provide a positive identification.
