*This has been the cause of much debate. There is very good wear on the fold of the foot and this is lead glass. The style is renaissance revival and this was at its height from 1870 to 1900. This is lead glass and has mixed colour bowl and stem. The composition and style were more more widely deployed in the early 20th century and this has lead to our suggested dating. This also correlates with most similar although not identical museum examples.
This certainly could be a cocktail glass. it is equivalent in size to a modern gin balloon. but it may simply be a piece of decorative glassware. To summarise. we do not know precisely what it is nor when it was made and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
