We have managed to locate Mike and have spoken with him. Now aged 82 Mike won a scholarship to the RCA and then trained in Stourbridge.

in 1976 Mike was invited by Stuart Crystal to wheel engrave a design on a typical Stuart Crystal air twist commemorative goblet for the Queens Silver Jubilee and to produce fifty identical designs. He refused but did offer to make them all unique. In addition to this Mike engraved some plates. We have an image of Mike engraving this very plate and he produced a total of 140 unique pieces in total on Stuart blanks.

Some of these pieces were used by Her Majesty The Queen to give to visiting Royalty during her Jubilee year. The remainder were retailed via Harrods department store.

The engraving is fluid and the detail in the fur and features of the tiger is utterly captivating. This is amngst the finest pieces of engraving inspired by the natural world that we have ever seen. from any century. Sadly Stuart crystal close its doors in 2001 for the final time .
