Description: A copper alloy pendant mount for horses harness with suspension loop to top. Shield-shaped. it possibly shows the arms of the Tilmanstone family; in heraldic terms: ‘Gules six lions rampant. double queued argent’ in the Dering Roll.

The mount. or pendant as they are sometime referred to. was placed on the peytrel across the chest. the browband across the head or the cupper across the flanks of the horse.
The most notable members of the medieval Tilmanstone family was Roger de Tilmanstone whose crest is displayed in the earliest heraldic record. the Dering Roll. originally housed in Dover Castle showing the crests of the barons under Edward I. Many of these barons had lands in Kent and Suffolk. but little is known about Roger. although there is a village in Kent called Tilmanstone and there may be some connection.
