Condition: Structurally sound though with cracks through the body and flakes off the inner and outer surfaces; 20-25% of the rim has been chipped off
Description: Flattened spherical shape with broad mouth and a short. lipped rim; there is a thickened. applied base
Size and Weight: 11.9 cm in diameter and 8.8 cm high- 310 grams
Notes : Likely to have been recovered by Victorian ‘antiquarians’ who had little or no compunction about excavating the many burial mounds. tumuli or barrows scattered across Britain; jars of this type are a typical example of the contents ‘misappropriated’ from these sites. This is the property of a renowned Sussex collector
