Our research shows that Major Forster served in the Anglo-Egyptian war which started two months after this jug was gifted to the officers of his battalion. Whilst in Egypt he fought at the Battle of Kassassin Loch in which the official numbers say that the British force lost only 57 men whilst there were over 2000 Egyptian casualties. He had previously served in the Anglo-Afghan war of 1878.
The regiment was originally reaised in North America suring the seven years French and Indian war.
John Wise –
I collect Britannia silver and was pleased when this arrived in Australia, well packed and luckily without further taxation or duty imposts. It is an attractive and practical jug which we use, because of its substantial capacity.
