Although there was an assay office in Glasgow when this was made the silversmith chose to have this assayed in Sheffield. Assaying every item has a cost, currently Birmingham marked silver is actually being assayed in Mumbai. The differential in costs was clearly enough to justify these Glasgow hammermen to have his items assayed in Birmingham.
