Heading : Indian sterling silver tea service Grish Chunder Dutt
Date : c1910 – this was a wedding present for the original owner whose family have had possession of it ever since. Made by Grish Chunder Dutt.
Period : British Raj
Origin : Bhowanipore, Calcutta, India
Decoration : Each piece with bulbous bodies with everted rims and terraced feet. Hardwood handles and finials probably sheesham. Upturned thumb rest on the teapot and coffee pot
Size :  Coffee pot: 21.5cm height, 25.5cm handle to spout. Teapot 15.5cm height, 28cm handle to spout. Sucrier: 11.1cm height, 18cm max width. Cream jug: 11.3cm height, 16cm handle to spout
Condition : Excellent, no dents or dings. The finial of the coffee pot has a small loss and the handle of the tepot has a short stable cracks.

Weight : 2690 grams (approx 86 troy)

This Indian silver tea service was made using imported sterling silver sheet from the UK; this firmly dates it after the turn of the 20th century. Furthermore, we know this to have been a wedding present for the current owner’s ancestor who was married before the outbreak of the First World War in India.

Grish Chunder Dutt was one of the finest Indian silversmiths, the family owned enterprise made numerous pieces for the aritstocracy of both the local Indians and British colonists.
