Heading : 18th century toddy ladle with Queen Anne silver shilling
Date : The coin is dated 1711 but the ladle is most probably c1760
Period : The coin Queen Anne but must be George I or later and most probably George II
Origin : England
Decoration : Double lipped bowl with pie crust decoration.
Size : Length: 35.3cm
Condition : Slight bend in the twisted baleen handle otherwise excellent
Restoration : None
Weight : 44 grams
Silver items with embedded coins cannot be dated from the coin. Other factors are in play. This was possibly made during the period of the Great Northern War of 1717-1720 or the Seven Years War 1754-63 when the price of silver spiked up (it was considered to be a hedge against inflation. as was gold in the 19th century and crypto currencies in modern times…I smell breadfruits laced with Tulips).
