It may seem strange to find that a quaich was made in London and not Edinburgh or Glasgow or by those Scottish provincial ‘hammermen’. For every silversmith ever registered in Edinburgh that are over forty times their number registered in London alone and then there is Birmingam. Exeter. Sheffield and so on. Scotland was never able to meet it’s own internal demand for silver wares let alone the demands of increasing numbers of diaspora heading south to escape hardship and a better future.
