Features : A wonderful hand painted flower with a broad gilt border
Size : 2.8cm tall by 22.5cm in diameter
Condition : Very good. limited wear to gilding

Much of the inspiration for such botanical designs were taken directly from the periodical English Botany illustrated by James Sowerby. The 36 volumes were published between 1790 and 1813 and were used by many decorators including Quaker Pegg in his second period at Derby when he produced some of the most sublime botanical depictions ever undertaken on English porcelain.

This depiction has been copied directly from A Complete Body of Gardening by John Hill. London. dated 1757. This plate is possibly by John Brewer or Leonard Lead. it has attributes of both artists. The gilders number is that of John Moscrop. Unfortunately painters numbers were reallocated with retirement and departure and this does not assist us. This is a stunning botanical depiction no matter who painted it.
