Eric Knowles Comments

This figure was introduced to pair with the Derby ‘Map’ seller modelled after the Meissen original by Peter Reinicke. after prints by Edme Bouchardon. for that factory’s ‘Cris de Paris’ series of circa 1745. This Derby example features the young woman with a trinket box before her whilst holding a partially unfurled map in her left hand with the inscription ‘South America’ discernible .

For examples of both figures See: English Porcelain Figures 1745 – 1795. Bradshaw P. Page198 plate 111 and 112. Also for a further discussion See: Derby porcelain Figures 1750- 1848. Bradshaw P. Page 107. plate 89.
