Junket flavoured with fruit and spices was a much loved dessert in the 18th century. Made simply from sugar, milk and cream with the addition of rennet. Im unsure as to the etymology of the modern use of the word junket in the context of lavish expenditure at the cost of the public purse. If anyone can speak with Tony Blair, Gordon Brown or the Parliamentary Expenses Committee I sure that an alternative meaning will be proffered.
