The design was published in “Le Livres Chinoise” after the engravings of Canot in 1758. In Robert Sayers tome of 1760 “Ladies Amusement” it shows the design adopted by Hancock at Worcester.
Is this a mug or a tankard. Was this intended for tea/coffee or beer. We believe the latter. when made the price of tea and coffee was beyond the reach of all but the very well to do. However nowadays anything not made from glass or silver is quite erroneously called a mug.
