Eric Knowles Comments

This coffee cup and saucer reflects the contemporary demand for the picturesque. For a discussion of this pattern with relevant images see: The Marshall Collection of Worcester Porcelain in the Ashmolean Museum Volume 2, Sword Rosalind, page 428, No 710 and page 710, lower plate for a coffee cup and saucer with same decoration. There is uncertainty as to whether this pattern relates to either the second son (1797-1834) of the 2nd Marquess of Bath(1765-1837) later to become the 3rd Marquess or the latter's second son (1832-1904)
