Pattern : European Landscape pattern – two gentlemen regarding a lakeside vista over a fence on both pieces; the reverse of the tea bowl with a single man walking along a road towards a distant castle
Condition : both excellent; no cracks; teabowl has a tiny nibbles to the rim and a small chip to the inside of the foot rim; bowl with some small under-glaze inclusions to the base of the well

Eric Knowles Comments : This range of designs had fewer ‘required elements’ than the reproductions of oriental scenes. which stuck more rigidly to type; there are – therefore – a number of variations on the general theme. but they are all generally recognisable enough to have been given a collective name; our pair is a marriage of two non-matching versions
