Description

New Hall bute – shape cup & saucer c.1800.

From around 1800. New Hall started to use stipple engraving applied with glue-bats. This enabled them to put multiple designs onto a single tea service at a fraction of hand painted services. These typically feature scenes from mythology and classical literature. There is a third category featuring mothers with children that are highly sought by collectors. These are either copied from or were engraved by Adam Buck.
