Heading :  New Hall Tea Cup & Saucer c1815
Date : 1812 – 1820
Period : George III
Marks : painters marks – something like a script ‘f’ in indigo to the base of the saucer. and an iron-red ‘o’ to the cup
Origin :Hanley. England
Colour : polychrome enamel over bat-printed designs with fine gilt bands. floral spring to base of cup well and foliate handle detail
Pattern : rustic landscapes – pattern number 984
Features : Compressed loop rather than round ring handle – see below  
Condition : Excellent; no chips. cracks or flakes; a little wear to the gilding as to be expected and some very slight roughness to the foot-rim of the cup
Restoration :None
Dimensions :Saucer 14.0 cm diameter. tea cup 5.9 cm tall and 8.1 cm diameter
Weight : 180 grams combined

Reference : New Hall & Its Imitators (Holgate; 1971); page 46 and plate 154; note the author’s comments with regard to the shape of the handle; as these are ovoid compressed loops rather than circular rings. this means that these pieces are made from bone china and date a little later than hard paste porcelain items which were decorated with the same pattern in the decade or so before the earliest date of the range stated above
