Description
New Hall bute – shape cup & saucer c.1800.
From around 1800. New Hall started to use stipple engraving applied with glue-bats. This enabled them to put multiple designs onto a single tea service at a fraction of the cost of hand painted services. These typically feature scenes from mythology and classical literature. There is a third category with mothers and children that are highly sought by collectors. These are either copied from or were engraved by Adam Buck. Note the typical New Hall ovoid ring handle.
