Description

New Hall Porcelain Teapot c.1825-30

see- An anthology of British teapots ; Miller and Berthoud p307 plate 1840

We have a matching teacup with the circular New Hall mark and pattern number 2901. We would describe this as “Etruscan” shaped with a fluted ogee body.  Decorated with a band of pink cabbage roses with a rococo gilt border. Marked with pattern number 2901 to the base. Such pots are frequently described as being “Rockingham” . but this is a misnomer and a very deceptive one. This teapot started life in Staffordshire. not Yorkshire.  No internal staining. it has a small 2mm chip hidden under the rim as shown which is very minor. No other chips. cracks or scratchs and no wear to the gilding. This has evidently spent the best part of 200 years as a purely decorative item. It stands 17cms tall to the top of the finial and 18cms diameter at widest. A truly amazing survivor and a rather beautiful one to boot.
