Unmarked shanked table wares are invariably difficult to ascribe to their makers apart from those made by Chamberlain who used an instantly recognizable double ‘Tramline’ moulding
The pronounced lean of the shank moulding on this tea bowl and saucer suggests an earlier date of manufacture when compared to the relatively more upright shanked wares of the factories of both John Rose and Anstice. Horton and Rose and evident in their 1800-1805 tea wares. Consequently there is a strong case to suggest that this example belongs to the initial Caughley-Coalport period that used a hybrid hard porcelain body after 1799 whilst the typical Caughley footrim on the tea bowl adds further weight to this argument.
