Wedgwood black basalt oval plaque 'The Frightened Horse' by George Stubbs. Produced in 1973, limited edition no. 81 of 250, in original frame.
The plaque depicts 'The Frightened Horse' and is based on a painting by George Stubbs (1724-1806) completed around 1765. The design is produced as a mirror image of the painting and shows the horse on the left rather than the right of the scene.
Moulded in deep relief from Wedgwood's black basalt, the plaque is mounted in it's original velvet lined frame. The central cartouche to the reverse shows the limited edition numbers printed in gold and carries the incised Wedgwood mark with date and BB for black basalt. The word Wedgwood is also incised under the overhang of the rock to the bottom right of the relief image.
