Additional Information : The house was built in stages from the 1780’s to completion in 1852. with this engraving being produced for Greenwood’s book as above. published in 1838.This was the year in which the construction of octagonal tower was started. but it was a common occurrence for such projects to be illustrated in their finished state prior to completion. The illustrator would have been able to view either architect G L Taylor’s plans. or the existing tower at Fonthill Abbey (Wiltshire) on which the new edifice was based. and was therefore able to ensure that his work showed the upcoming embellishment with considerable accuracy.
