Additional Information : Depicts the ruins of Tonbridge Castle as they looked in 1735 – the castle. motte. and tower are overgrown and ruinous. The town and Church can be seen in the background. This is a reproduction of the original engraving taken from volume XI of Samuel & Nathanial Buck’s seminal series ‘Views of Castles & Abbeys in England’ which was published in instalments between 1726 and 1739. an astonishing collection of over 500 such illustrations. Interestingly. the building shown at the bottom right of the image – with the long porch running away from the river – was the home of George Wise’s Tunbridge Ware manufactory.
