SOLD – Georgian Horse & Carriage Engraved Glass Tumbler c1770

A superb Georgian Engraved Glass Tumbler dating to c1770.

The engraving features a period carriage. a  coupé  to be precise. the “boy racer” of its day. with the coachman sitting atop being pulled along by two horses and a further horseman in hot pursuit brandishing his sword. The assembled are dressed are in period continental cocked hats.  and cloaks fashionable in both Germany and Austria. If any students of period dress can add some further information we will be delighted to hear. Deep snapped pontil to the base.

Probably Bohemian in origin. it has no chips cracks or restoration and is in superb condition with expected wear to base and rim. It measures 4 ¾ inches tall with a 3 ¾ inch bowl.
