Joseph Barton of Hognaston Derbyshire married Sarah Jolinson of Atlow were married by license in Atlow chapel. Derbyshire on the 9th January 1837. The 1841 census states that he was an agricultural labourer. This begs the question how could he have afforded such a fine glass.

The answer is that he was most probably given this by his employer. the Blackwall family whose coat of arms bears a dog in full course and whose crest bears a lion with arrow. Many thanks to Mrs Scollick for her endeavours.

*The mitre cuts are excellent dating exidence. The length of the opposing cuts are not exactly the same. The width of the cuts are not the same. Some points reach the rim and others do not. The base ws hand cut by eye.
