A tumbler dedicated to Naval greats. most notably Nelson. Below each anchor is a name and date

Nelson 1st August 1798 the date of the Battle of the Nile.

Duncan 11th October 1797. the battle of Camperdown.

Howe 1st June 1794 is a reference to Richard Howe’s victory against the French in the Bay of Biscay during the French revolutionary wars.

St Vincent 14th Feb 1797 refers to John Jervis. the first Earl St Vincent. and his victory at the Battle of St Vincent alongside Nelson.

The significance of these victories was immense for the British Empire confirming to all that Britannia truly did rule the waves. The absence of the Battle of Trafalgar means that this tumbler must have been made sometime between 1798-1805 else it must have been included.

This is our fourth example. The last to come to market was sold by Bonhams on 21st June 2022 for £2800.
