A Georgian Engraved Ale Tankard c1780.
 
An exceptional example with a tale to tell. With applied rings and  superbly engraved large hop flowers and leaves and ears of barley at either side of the handle.  The name “John Blick” has also been engraved opposite the handle. The applied handle is in pristine condition. they are prone to being cracked at the base of the handle and it has an applied foot. again in superb condition.
 
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 5 7/8 inches tall with a 3 3/4 inch rim and 4 1/4 inch foot.
 
Holds a pint and a quarter. half a “yard” of beer. A client in Warwickshire was kind enough to point out that Blick  is a rare name originating from Norton Lindsey in that county and offered to do some research. He found an estate in the tenure of one John Blick esquire was held in 1767 in the parish of Norton Lindsey. Parish records also show that there were two John Blicks. father and son. the latter being christened at Cudworth on the 30 October 1748. the son of John Blick Senior and Elizabeth ( nee Bayliss) married on the 4th October 1744 in Cudworth but residing in Minworth. The younger John was buried in Cudworth on February 18th 1803.
