We attended a wedding in Penrith and can advide that Roundthorn is on the outskirts of the rather pretty market town. It was common place for people to add their own diamond point engraving. The mixture of engraving methods strongly indicates that the Roundthorn 1840 was added at a later date and the the place was of significant importance to the engraver.
Were this a hostelry called “Roundthorn” then experience dictates that the engraved would have specified “The Roundthorn”
