Description

We have a magnificent Georgian Heraldic Ship Engraved Glass Tumbler which dates to around 1800.

It has a tapering cylindrical form with a superb Three Masted Frigate engraved on one side and the letters R L under a Griffin Heraldic within a circle of stars. Polished pontil to the base.

English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. the glass measures 4 ½ inches tall  and 3 3/8th inches in diameter.

The glass is one of a number that we have available which were originally part of the Aspin Collection which resided in Broomhill House. Granton on Spey in Scotland and it has the original white enamelled number 331 from that collection on the base.

The engraving is of a very high standard . the ship at anchor flying the English Flag. The Griffin is a legendary creature with the body of lion and the head and wings of an eagle. The Griffin is know for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.

Rosemary Kennedy Aspin (1918-2009) at Broomhill.
