Description

We have an exceptionally Rare Georgian Mixed Opaque & Air Twist Ale Glass which dates to around 1760.

It has a Long Round Funnel Bowl above a Mixed Twist Stem consisting of Two Pairs of White Opaque Twist Spiral Tapes outside a Multi Spiral Air Twist. Sits on a conical foot which has a rough snapped pontil.

English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. clean and clear. It measures an impressive 8 inches tall with a 2 3/8th inch bowl and 3 1/8th inch foot.

Im sure you’ve heard it all before re just how rare specific glasses are. but if you can find another example of this glass let me know because we have never seen another…any where at any time.

The 18th cen glass collectors bible is ‘Glass Through The Ages by E Barrington Haynes’. where it describes how Mixed Twists are rarer in quantity and form to English Lead Colour Twists and I quote –

‘The detailed records show that there are roughly forty mixed twists to every fifty colour Twists. and two varieties to every five. so there is clearly a smaller choice if the search is for a mixed twist’.

He then goes on to describes the various forms and variations…there are 11 types of mixed air twist on unknopped glasses with bell. bucket. flared. round funnel bowls. all wines…however there is no mention of a Mixed Twist Ale Glass.

This is a rare glass indeed and if you have any questions. feel free to ask.
