Additional Information : Contrary to popular belief. gin was actually first made in Holland. not England and was known as genever or jenever. The English discovered the spirit when fighting the Dutch war of independance in the 17th century. London gin as we know it today was born more than a century later. Genever was created initially by Dutch physician Franciscus Sylvius in the 16th century as a medicine which was believed to cure various ailments and improve cirtculation. During the Dutch war of independance. gin was given to soldiers and was refered to as ‘Dutch Courage’.
