Port glasses have been small versions of wine glasses from the moment port first became became fortified. for this was not always the case. From the period advertisements we have read gin glasses were smaller still . pardon the pun. With wine glasses being on 5 1/2 inches tall it can be arduous to determine what was intended for port and what was intended for gin or other spirits. To be absolutely sfe. use one glass for both and buy a rinser as this is most probably the correct period procedure.
