This handblown  Georgian deceptive drinking glass. or sham dram. has a knopped stem. conical foot. and thick glass deceptive bowl. Of all the 18th century glass styles to have been lost this is one of the most interesting. In order to avoid embarrassingly slurring their way through a toast. toastmasters would use these bowls to give the impression that they were drinking a full glass. Deceptive glasses came in a number of styles with air twists. opaque twists. facet cut. and baluster stems all having examples.
