Description
An amusing oddity. a Georgian Trick Glass
It has an deceptive bowl with a outer chamber which is filled from the foot and sealed with a cork. The user may then separately fill the bowl of the glass in the usual manner. It has a central swelling knop above a conical folded foot.
It could have been used for two or more reasons. namely playing a party trick on guests or for gambling purposes betting an oppenent they could not drink the contents of the glass. This glass was especially made to decieve!
We have found similar examples with museums dating from the second to the third quarter of the 18th century. both English and continental and all made in soda glass. We cannot be more precise with dating other than to say it is mid 18th century.
No chips or cracks. it measures 5 1/2 inches tall with a 2 3/4 inch bowl and 2 3/4 inch foot.
