Description
A magnificent late Georgian engraved serving rummer or punch bowl c.1820.
It has a large pan top bowl with fruiting vine engraving around the rim. The base of the bowl is petal moulded. It has a capstan stem above conical foot with a rough snapped pontil. English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 7 ½ inches tall with a 5 7/8 inch bowl.
A truly impressive and uncommon piece of period glassware. Large serving rummers were used as effectively as punch bowls for various alcoholic mixtures which were distributed into smaller rummers using a toddy lifter or punch ladle. This is a particularly fine example.
