The Oddfellows were founded around 1730 or so. The perceived wisdom is that this was a guild for craftsmen and tradesmen who were not already represented by existing livery companies. such as ” The Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers” and Pattenmakers. for those who made wooden shoes. You will note that many of the symbols are shared with the Company of Masons.
