This was clearly dedicated to a ship called “The Two Brothers” by the London based Trade Guild. There were two or more ships named The Two Brothers that were built between Deptford and The Isle of Dogs in the west and Chatham in the east over a fifty year period from 1760 to 1810. By this time the membership of the Worshipful Company had extended well beyond London and we have reached the end of several cul-de-sacs of research trying to establish an owner or captain with the initials RJ. In this regard we have for now been defeated.
This is a beautiful piece of social history and a rare example.
