Description
This is one of the earliest English Rheinish wine glasses that we have had.
Rhenish wines were popular in England during the latter half of the 18th century. To manufacture these wine glasses. the glass houses leaned heavily of the style of earlier wald glass “Roemers” that has trailed decoration to the feet and raspberry prunts.
This glass has a cup bowl that sits on a milled ring with three pairs of prunts above a conical folded foot.
The metal is an intense green and contains some small air bubbles and seeds as well as the expected tooling marks.
It stands 4 3/8th inches tall with a 2 3/8th inch bowl and a 3 inch foot. No chips cracks or restoration
A folded foot on this form is quite rare and this is one of the very few we have had over the years.
