Additional Information : This technique of decoration was patented by John Davenport. Davenport’s father died when he was only six years old and as such began work early in life soon to become a banker. He then came upon an opportunity to become Thomas Wolfe’s partner at a china works in Liverpool. He spent 9 years with Wolfe before opening his own company in 1794. Brindley’s Longport Pottery. this of course ended his partnership with Wolfe. By the 1840’s Davenport employed over 1.500 people producing tablewares and glass. The technique of decorating glass in imitation of engraving or etching was patented in1806.
