Description
An excellent large Georgian regency serving rummer c1820
Serving rummers were used to prepare drinks. mixtures of spirits. wines. cordials sugar and spices. The concoction would then be transferred into smaller rummers via a ladle or “toddy lifter”. The bowl has 13 slice cuts and it stands on a capstan stem and a conical foot with snapped pontil. It weighs 800 grams. Like many we do enjoy a very large gin and tonic in the summer with ice and cucumber or lime. On such occasions these glasses are suitable for drinking from.
It measures 7 5/8th inches tall with a 6 inch bowl and 4 inch stem. English lead glass. no chips or cracks. There is a few minor scracthes on the inside of the bowl which were probably caused by a serving ladle or toddy lifter.
