Features and Provenance: Postumus was a successful general in Europe during the days of Imperial Rome under Emperor Gallienus. As a usurper he annexed Gaul, Britain and Spain and was made Augustus by the troops who disliked Gallienus. During this period of upheaval and war, his realms were relatively peaceful, this is borne out by his coins that are of higher quality compared to his predecessor’s debased silver content. His grip on silver mining areas allowed his coins to be of relatively good grade and quality compared to those of Rome. During the reign of Gallienus his coins went from a poor 26% silver to only 5%,
