Description: This unusual and rare medium sized bronze ‘Kraftig Profilierte’ (high profile) type fibula with high arching bow. bird-like figure surmounting back with linear ridged decoration and single ‘knot’ beside. diamond-shaped head and ornate knop to end and sprung pin with solid catch plate. A fine piece of rare Roman jewellery.

Features and Provenance: Brooches as clothes fasteners have been made since the bronze age. As skills and metallurgy advanced. so did the size and detail of the fibulae. They were still used by the Romans. as buttons had yet to be invented. This type of brooch is thought to be derived from the La Tene type of fibula and have been found in the Germanic area of middle Europe including the Danube.
