Origin : Tunbridge Wells – attributed to Henry Hollamby

Decoration : An image of Eridge Castle set in to a satinwood panel inside two plain and one banded keylines; broader banded keys run to both sides of a floral wool-work border which is set on curved panels over canted sides; rosewood veneers. with the four concave sides decorated with the signature Hollamby ‘oak leaf and acorn’ frieze; satinwood lining internally with replacement red satin lining to the lid; there is some unusual blood-wood or red ebony used in the foreground of the castle image. one of Hollamby’s extensive array of different coloured woods. purported in 1882 to extend to 124 different types !
Size :  23.8 x 18.6 x 10.5 cm
Condition : Very good; a stablised split runs right across the castle image but this is well-sealed by the lacquer; there are two equally robust cracks across the curved border on the back edge; very little tile loss. though one of the banded keylines bounding the image has lost a few pieces. and the lacquer has become pitted; corners are good; very few scratches; excellent internally with working key.
Restoration : Professionally cleaned and polished; replacement lining as above.
