Decoration : A flat pin-hinged lid featuring isometric cubes set within continuous keyline stringing; bounded by further stringing and a five-square geometric border; lifts with a small turned handle; plain rosewood or possibly oak veneers to four plain. canted sides with rounded top edges and a small. angled foot. A plain loop handle is fitted to the two short ends with turned wooden pins; internally. the lid closes on to three ledges edges fitted in to an otherwise plain void; this is lined with original gold-printed pink paper. based lined with dark-coloured textured paper. either brown or maroon
Size : 15.3 x 9.8 x 4.1 cm (excluding handle)
Condition : Excellent; no damage or losses other than a little wear to the lining papers; some of the perspective cube tiles are very slightly warped along their grain directions. but all are firmly seated

Notes : This is an excellent small box in very good condition indeed; the lining papers and use of green oak tesserae (as highlights to the geometric border) place this firmly within the product range of the Nye/Barton partnership; it also matches – in form. other than lacking a set of bun feet – another handled basket we have seen which was labelled for the company in the period following the demise of Edmund Nye (1863).
