This type of Tunbridge ware marks a significant change in the production of mosaic wares in the spa town. Up until around 1830 Tunbridge ware was either decorated with painted designs or with far more simple parquetry (eg all over vandyke triangles). For a brief period (around 1830-1845) we see these intricate geometric designs come to the fore.

After this the mosaics most closely assocaited with Tunbridge ware; topographical. botanical. zoological etc are dominant. The itnricate geometric designs were generally relegated to borders and detailing rather than the central design post 1845
