In the time before the tesselated mosaic which Tunbridge ware is generally associated with. painted whitewood boxes were a common theme for the Tonbridge / Tunbridge Wells manufacturers. This was most likely painted in Tonbridge by one of a team of ladies who were employed by Wise et al to decorate their wares.
